The Integrated Program in Management Aptitude Test (IPMAT) is an entrance exam for admission to Integrated MBA programs offered by top Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and a few other prestigious institutes. The Integrated Program in Management (IPM) is a 5-year program designed for students after completing their 12th grade, combining undergraduate and postgraduate studies in management.

What is IPMAT?

IPMAT is an entrance test conducted by IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak for admission to their 5-year Integrated Program in Management.

The IPM program is a dual degree program, where students earn both a Bachelor’s degree (usually BBA or BA) and a Master’s degree (MBA) at the end of the course.


Eligibility Criteria:
  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed Class 12 or equivalent from a recognized board in any stream.
  • Minimum Marks: IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak require at least 60% in Class 12 (55% for reserved categories).
  • Age Limit: Candidates should be 20 years old or younger as of August 1 of the year of admission (age relaxations apply for reserved categories).

IPMAT Exam Pattern

  • IPMAT IIM Indore Pattern:
    • Mode of Exam: Computer-Based Test (CBT).
    • Duration: 2 hours.
    • Sections: The exam consists of three sections:
      • Quantitative Ability (MCQs) – 40 Questions
      • Quantitative Ability (Short Answers) – 20 Questions
      • Verbal Ability (MCQs) – 40 Questions
    • Marking Scheme:
      • Each correct answer: +4 marks.
      • Each incorrect answer (only for MCQs): -1 mark.
      • No negative marking for short answers.
  • IPMAT IIM Rohtak Pattern:
    • Mode of Exam: Online test.
    • Duration: 2 hours.
    • Sections: The exam consists of three sections:
      • Quantitative Ability (MCQs) – 40 Questions
      • Quantitative Ability (Short Answers) – 40 Questions
      • Verbal Ability (MCQs) – 40 Questions
    • Marking Scheme:
      • Each correct answer: +4 marks.
      • Each incorrect answer (only for MCQs): -1 mark.

    • Key Areas Covered:

      • Quantitative Ability: Questions test mathematical skills, data interpretation, and logical reasoning.

      • Verbal Ability: Questions focus on reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and verbal reasoning.

      • Logical Reasoning (IIM Rohtak): Tests logical thinking and analytical skills.

Colleges Accepting IPMAT Scores

IIM Indore (IPM Program)
  • Program: 5-Year Integrated Program in Management (IPM).
  • Degrees Awarded:
    Bachelor of Arts (Foundations of Management) after 3 years.
    Master of Business Administration (MBA) after 2 more years.
  • Structure: First 3 years focus on foundational courses (economics, mathematics, social sciences), followed by 2 years of core MBA courses.
IIM Rohtak (IPM Program)
  • Program: 5-Year Integrated Program in Management (IPM).
  • Degrees Awarded:
    Bachelor of Arts (Foundations of Management) after 3 years.
    Master of Business Administration (MBA) after 2 more years.
  • Structure: Focuses on a broad range of subjects in the initial years, with core management training in the final 2 years.
IIM Ranchi (From 2023)
  • Program: IIM Ranchi has also launched a 5-Year IPM program.
  • Exam: IIM Ranchi accepts IPMAT Indore scores for admission to its IPM program.
IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu (Joint IPM)
These IIMs have launched a joint 5-Year Integrated Program in Management and accept JIPMAT scores (conducted by NTA) for admission, but these are separate from IPMAT.
Nirma University (Institute of Management)
Program: Nirma University offers a 5-Year Integrated BBA-MBA program and accepts IPMAT Indore scores.
TAPMI (T. A. Pai Management Institute)
Program: TAPMI offers a 5-Year BBA-MBA integrated program and accepts IPMAT scores for admission.
Other Colleges
Some private universities and management institutes may also consider IPMAT scores for admissions into integrated programs.

Admission Process Using IPMATScores

  • Shortlisting for Personal Interview (PI):
    • Based on IPMAT scores, candidates are shortlisted for the next round, which typically includes a Personal Interview (PI) and possibly a Written Ability Test (WAT) (for IIM Indore).
    • IIM Rohtak also includes a Group Discussion (GD) as part of its selection process.
  • Final Admission: selection is based on a combination of:
    • IPMAT score.
    • Class 10 and 12 scores.
    • Performance in the Personal Interview (PI) and/or GD.
    • Diversity factors may also be considered (e.g., gender diversity, academic background).

Total Course Duration and Structure

The IPM program is 5 years long, with the first three years focusing on building a solid foundation in subjects like economics, statistics, psychology, mathematics, and humanities.

The last two years align with the PGP (MBA) curriculum of the respective IIMs, focusing on advanced management education.
